CDRoller is a recovery tool for optical media like CDs and DVDs. This application will read your CDs or DVDs at the lowest levels to retrieve files that can't be retrieved within Windows. CDRoller can recover files that were burned to optical media using drag-and-drop tools like Roxio Sonic and Nero. But it works just as well for CDs burned by camcorders or other portable devices.
The application is very powerful but it manages to keep the task very simple. The first window that you see lists all the media detected in your system. By double-clicking your CD or DVD, you will see all the files that were burned onto it. You can then select individual files for recovery or you can choose to recover the whole CD or DVD.
I like the fact that CDRoller displays on-screen help on its main window. Although the texts are a bit technical, users with a little knowledge can make use of the help and the recommendations to recover lost files.
CDRoller's trial version will not actually recover any files, but it will tell you if they can be recovered. You have to purchase the full-version to save the files back to your hard disc.
From what I have read on the Internet, CDRoller is one of the most popular solutions out there for recovering files off CDs and DVDs. It is not free, but at $39, it could be considered a bargain.
